Menteco Student Terms & Consent Notice

Effective Date: August 6, 2026 Version: 1.0 (Draft — for legal review)

This notice is written in plain language for students and parents. It supplements the Menteco Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

For Students

What Menteco is. Menteco is a tool your counselor or mentor uses to help you with college planning — goals, deadlines, applications, and messaging with your mentor.

Who can use it. You must be at least 13. If you're 13–17, a parent/guardian or your school must have given permission before your account was created.

What we collect. Your name and email, your goals and college interests, your progress, messages with your mentor, and anything you choose to upload (like a transcript or essay). Uploading documents is always your choice.

What we do with it. We use your information for one thing: making the app work for you and your mentor. Some features use AI (like reminders and progress summaries) — your information is processed securely to generate those, and it is never used to train AI models.

What we never do:

  • We never sell your information.

  • We never show you ads or use your data for advertising.

  • We never share your data with anyone outside your counseling relationship, except the service providers that run our platform (all in the US) or if the law requires it.

  • Your data is not used to grade, rank, or evaluate you.

Your choices. You can see your data, fix mistakes, or ask for your account and data to be deleted anytime — ask your mentor or email privacy@menteco.co.

Be safe. Keep your password private. Use Menteco only for your college planning work with your mentor. If anything in the app ever makes you uncomfortable, tell a trusted adult and contact us.

For Parents and Guardians

Your child was invited to Menteco by their counselor, school, or an educational consultant. By consenting (directly, or through the school/organization that holds your consent), you agree that:

  1. Menteco may collect and use your child's information only as described in our Privacy Policy — to provide the counseling and mentorship service. Full policy: [link].

  2. Your child's data is stored on encrypted infrastructure in the United States, is never sold, and is never used for advertising or AI training.

  3. You may review, correct, or delete your child's information at any time by contacting the counselor who invited your child or emailing privacy@menteco.co. Deletion requests are completed within 30 days.

  4. You may withdraw consent at any time; we will then close the account and delete the data.

Consent Record

(Captured digitally at account creation)

  • Student is 18 or older — student consents directly to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

  • Student is 13–17 — the inviting counselor/organization confirms that verifiable parent/guardian consent has been obtained (or that the school has authority to consent under applicable law), and agrees to retain the consent record.

  • Parent/guardian direct consent (where used): Parent name, relationship, date, and electronic signature.

Menteco does not permit accounts for children under 13.
